Blair Wilson and Chairman Ron Webster meeting Helen and Katy from Soul Kitchen
Chester Male Voice Choir have chosen two charities to support for this coming year. They are The Soul Kitchen in Chester. and The Charles Thompson Mission in Birkenhead.
Soul Kitchen was formed back in 2015, when a group of friends were feeling increasingly sad and frustrated walking past what seemed like an ever growing number of people sleeping rough on the streets of Chester. They had started chatting to some of the people they walked past and desperately wanted to do more to help. They set up some tables on the Hoole Way roundabout and each brought a dish of hot food to share with people who needed it. Word soon spread and before long they were drawing a regular crowd. They now operate out of the Campbell Memorial Hall in Boughton and provide food and friendship food and support to anyone experiencing loneliness, food poverty or homelessness.
Charles Thompson’s Mission is an independent charity specialising in providing food, clothing, care and support to the poor and homeless of Wirral.
The Charles Thompson Mission in Birkenhead was founded in as we know it today in 1892 by Charles Thompson to alleviate children in poverty. Following his death in 1903, his daughter Annie Thompson continued with his work. The Centre is now managed by Mr Bernie Frost.15 Jan 2017
Much of their work is carried out by wonderful volunteer help. Some people devote many hours to the Mission, while others maybe just in short one-off bursts. Every hour given is highly valued. Pictured below is Chairman Ron Webter meeting Centre Manager Bernie Frost.
