Blair Wilson and Chairman Ron Webster meeting Helen and Katy from Soul Kitchen

Chester Male Voice Choir have chosen two charities to support for this coming year. They are The Soul Kitchen in Chester. and  The Charles Thompson Mission in Birkenhead.

Soul Kitchen was formed back in 2015,  when a group of friends were feeling increasingly sad and frustrated walking past what seemed like an ever growing number of people sleeping rough on the streets of Chester. They had started chatting to some of the people they walked past and desperately wanted to do more to help. They set up some tables on the Hoole Way roundabout  and each brought a dish of hot food to share with people who needed it. Word soon spread and before long they were drawing a regular crowd. They now operate out of the Campbell Memorial Hall in Boughton and provide food and friendship food and support to anyone experiencing loneliness, food poverty or homelessness.

Charles Thompson’s Mission is an independent charity specialising in providing food, clothing, care and support to the poor and homeless of Wirral.

The Charles Thompson Mission in Birkenhead was founded in as we know it today in 1892 by Charles Thompson to alleviate children in poverty. Following his death in 1903, his daughter Annie Thompson continued with his work. The Centre is now managed by Mr Bernie Frost.15 Jan 2017

Much of their work is carried out by wonderful volunteer help. Some people devote many hours to the Mission, while others maybe just in short one-off bursts. Every hour given is highly valued. Pictured below is Chairman Ron Webter meeting Centre Manager Bernie Frost.

Chester Male Voice Choir are delighted to welcome The Perth Male Voice Choir in concert on Wednesday 3rd
Hall, Town Hall Square, Chester. CH1 2HQ. Perth Male Voice Choir are arriving in the Uk from Australia and Chester is their first port of call before embarking on a tour of North Wales and many more concerts..

The Perth Male Voice Choir from Western Australia has been performing for over 98 years and currently has over 60 members. The Choir performs for a variety of events in and around Perth averaging over twenty concerts including a number of charity events most years.

The Choir undertook its first overseas tour of the UK in 2018, performing five concerts in South Wales, including in St David’s Cathedral and then the Cotswolds. The Choir then performed at the Albert Hall as part of the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs with 16 other male choirs from around the world. This year we are touring Chester and North Wales with concerts in Chester, Llandudno, Llanfairfechan, Betws y Coed, Beaumaris, and Caernarfon.

Although it is not a Welsh Choir, it sings in the Welsh tradition of four-part harmony with a piano accompaniment and includes a number of songs in Welsh in its varied repertoire.

The Choir is not an auditioned choir and whilst some singing experience and an ability to read music are desirable, they are not essential. The most important attribute is enthusiasm. Our annual events such as music festivals, St David’s Day, the Welsh free Church’s Gymanfa Ganu and traditional pub “afterglows” adds to the sense of camaraderie and community.

Our return to the Town Hall for our Autumn Festival Concert on 30 September was a great success. Our good friend Philip Chidell, the excellent local violinist, enthralled and entertained the audience with his wonderful music and witty introductions. He joined us for two joint pieces, one of which can be seen in the attached video. We appreciated the Lord Mayor's accepting our invitation to be our honoured guest.
The raffle in aid of local charity ShareShop raised over £350

We participated in an enormously successful musical celebration of the coronation on the Town Hall square on Sunday 7 May. Some seven local choirs and musical groups took part. The event was brillianly produced and introduced by our President Matt Baker in front of a huge crowd of appreciative people. It was such a pleasure to take part in this once in a generation event.
