Chester Male Voice Choir: 80th Anniversary 1941 - 2021

HANDOVER OF CHAIRMANSHIP

HANDOVER OF CHAIRMANSHIP

At the Choir’s 81st AGM on 16 March, in accordance with the Choir Constitution and rules, John Walsh stood down as Chairman having served his term and handed over to the Vice Chairman, Blair Wilson. Said John “I actually served 3 rather than the standard 2 years having been granted an extension to potentially enjoy leading the choir for a second ‘normal’ year following the face-to-face inactivity of 2020 due to Covid.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the role and I have many achievements to look back on, not least leading us through an unprecedented period still together, keen, and ready to do what we love, performing and entertaining. This has been a team effort and I thank the capable and hard-working team that is the Management Committee and the support of an excellent music team. I am delighted to hand over the leadership role to Blair and will support him in taking the choir onwards and upwards”.
In his address following election at the AGM Blair said “I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to our retiring chairman John and reflect on his period of chairmanship over the past three years. I can honestly imagine that when John sat in this seat three years ago at the AGM nobody could have foreseen what was around the corner and what a dramatic effect it would have on everybody’s life and the challenges we would face.
The pandemic presented a major threat to organisations and choirs were no exception. This choir was fortunate to have a committee, led by John, who worked so hard throughout the pandemic to ensure that the bond in this choir remained as strong as if it were meeting in person. It is therefore not by chance that when we resumed rehearsals, we were able to quickly reach the level of music we had pre-pandemic and were able to perform a comeback concert at a very early date. John, can I thank you on behalf of all the choir members for the immense amount of work over the past three years and particularly your work throughout the pandemic”
