We are actively seeking new singing members and anyone who thinks they might be interested is invited to come along to one of our rehearsals. You’ll see who we are, (we’re a friendly, likeable bunch of ordinary guys!) what we do and how we do it.
You can just sit and listen at the back of the hall without any pressure or obligation, or you can, when you feel comfortable, sit in and have a go with the help of an experienced member. January to March is a good time to check us out but you are welcome at any time of the year. The benefit of coming along January to March is that we will be learning some new music from scratch, and we are all therefore equally incompetent at the start of the process!
You do NOT have to read music; it helps of course if you do, but most of us don’t / didn’t and you’ll quickly learn the basics that help understanding. You just need to enjoy singing and be able to sing in tune. There are no auditions, just a vocal range test to confirm you can sing in tune and to start you in the most appropriate section for your vocal comfort.
Here are some genuine comments from more recent recruits:
"I have known about and been a fan of the Choir for over 30 years and have no previous singing experience. Working away prevented me from getting involved until now. Having plucked up the courage to attend rehearsals for a couple of weeks, I was subsequently delighted to attempt to sing with the choir, ably assisted by an experienced first tenor. I thoroughly enjoyed it and very much looked forward to coming back for more! I was very pleased with the warm welcome I received - thanks to all concerned."
"My brother introduced me to the Choir; he’d been a member for a year or so. I knew I could sing but I hadn’t done so seriously since secondary school choir days! I was made to feel most welcome from the first minute. The music is learned step by step and allows confidence to be built. Sitting with an experienced ‘buddy’ is really effective and you can learn at your own pace initially. I’d recommend the choir to anyone; it has changed my social life significantly for the better."
Rehearsals are held at St Columba’s Parish Hall, Plas Newton, Chester between 7.00 and 9.15 pm on Sundays with a15 minute tea and socialising break. Just turn up to a rehearsal a few minutes beforehand and we’ll make you most welcome.
If you’d like to speak to someone or get more information beforehand we’d be more than happy to speak to you - please contact us.
